Basic C.E.R.T. Course
Starting: February 8, 2012 - eight Wednesday evenings 7:00-9:00pm, with one Saturday (practical exercise) on April 9, 2012 from 9:00am-12:00pm
Location: Westchester County D.E.S., 4 Dana Road, Valhalla, NY 10595
Course Description: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Course educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
Recommended Prerequisites: It is recommended that you complete the "Introduction to Community Emergency Response Teams" IS317 Course Overview online. This is an independent study course that serves as an introduction to CERT.
Registration and Contact Information: Pre-registration is mandatory. Course is limited to the first 25 students that pre-register. No walk-ins are permitted. You will receive an e-mail notification indicating that either you have been successfully enrolled in the course or that all available spots have been filled.
